What would you consider to be the American Dream??? To me it mean living in a country where everyone voice is heard, to not be discriminated because of race and status, dreams can be endless.

I was born and raised in the US to parents who came to these states illegally to find better opportunities for themselves, and for their families. Both my parents had lost their fathers and had to help there Mother’s find away to make ends meet. From working in and Orange packing factory to working in a tortilla make line making minimum wage they were able to help there families keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Back in the day there seemed to be much more acceptance for illegals to come and try to make find a better life. Now a days all there is hate and lots of discrimination.

I am extremely grateful that I am a legal citizen and that i can explore all the endless windows of opportunities with no limit. What hurts me is for all those the wonderful individuals who i have met in my life who are fighting to stay in this country to become legal like everyone else, are not being given that chance. its not right that good hardworking people are being punished for status.

My friend Erika Andiola who i have known since high school is a girl who like my parents came to this country to find better opportunities for herself and family. Graduating with honors in the top 5 of our class being excepted to Arizona State University with multiple scholarship to help her pay her way through school, that were taken away due to a law that was past. Luckily an organization sponsored her so she was able to graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, her ultimate dream was to become a counselor. With Erika’s status being an issue her dreams are on hold, from being able to accept the job she always wanted.

One goal that Erika is working hard to achieve is for the Dream Act to be passed in front of congress. This bill has been reinstated since 2001, but never received a good amount of voted to pass. This bill states that if an immigrant is enters the United States as a child and a part of the community will be allowed temporary legal status under certain condition. Students need to have been here 5 years before for passage of the legislation and are under the age of 16 the time they enter the US. Once they complete two years of secondary education or two years in the military and they show good moral character are granted to apply for residency.

I believe its important to stand behind Erika and other young individuals who are fighting for the same dream. They deserve a chance to succeed and have the same rights to the opportunities that any legal american has. Like she states in this video above ” Immigrants can also be good people, were not here to take over. We just want an opportunity.” I hope that we a Americans can study this cause and help the dreamers achieve this dream.
